* WARNING: Don't ask episode specific questions with the general chat unless you have already started the conversation using the 'Episode Query' mode. The General Chat doesn't like to tell you it doesn't know and tends to lie. Check out the examples above to see how best to use the general chat.

How to Use the Podcast Transcript Exploration Tool

Welcome to the Podcast Transcript Exploration Tool! This tool offers a unique way to interact with and explore podcast content through three distinct search/interaction modes. These modes are designed to complement one another, helping you dive deeper into discussions and topics.

The tool maintains the context of your conversation as you switch between modes, using them together, ensuring responses stay relevant and coherent.

The Three Modes:

  • Keyword Search: Locate episodes by topics, names, or phrases.

  • Episode Query: Summarise, list, or analyse episodes in detail.

  • General Chat: Explore ideas, people, or concepts beyond the transcript.

Let's break down each mode to understand how to use them together effectively:

1. Keyword Search

This mode is perfect when you're starting your exploration or narrowing your focus.

  • Purpose: Locate episodes that discuss specific topics, names, or phrases.

  • Example Queries:

    • "Kristen Bell"
    • "cars"
    • "AI, Bill Gates"

Tips for Keyword Search:

  • Use single keywords, names, or short phrases.

  • Separate multiple keywords with commas (e.g., "AI, climate change, technology").

  • Use double quotes for exact matches. For example, searching “cars” without quotes might return results for “scars” or “Carson.”

  • Results include the episode number, guest details, description, and a relevant transcript excerpt.

2. Episode Query

Once you've identified an episode of interest, switch to this mode to delve into the details.

  • Purpose: Summarise, list, or analyse episode transcripts.

  • Example Queries:

    • “List all the books mentioned in this episode.”
    • “Explain both sides of the argument discussed.”

Features of Episode Query:

  • Search by a single episode, a selection, or a range of episodes.

  • Context from previous queries (across all modes) is retained for richer insights.

  • Generate summaries, create lists, or perform in-depth transcript analyses.

  • Response time varies depending on the query (typically 15 seconds to 1 minute per episode).

3. General Chat

Use this mode to expand the discussion beyond the transcripts and dive into broader topics.

  • Purpose: Explore ideas, people, or concepts mentioned in the podcast, or discover related content.

  • Example Queries:

    • “Tell me more about the author of the fourth book on that list.”
    • “What is the address of the restaurant mentioned?”
    • “Who do you think was right in this conversation?”

Benefits of General Chat:

  • Combines context from all previous queries across modes for comprehensive answers.

  • Ideal for learning more about people, places, topics, and events beyond the episode.

Pro Tips:

  • Be specific: For example, instead of asking "Tell me more," say "Tell me more about item 4 in your previous list."

  • Focus: Discussing a single episode in detail often yields richer insights.

  • Iterate: If your first query doesn't get the desired result, rephrase it or ask with slight nuances.

Evolving and Improving

This tool is a work in progress and will improve over time based on user feedback and advancements. Have fun exploring, and enjoy diving deep into your favorite podcasts!
