Exploring Deepfake Technology: A Test with Avatarify
This is a deepfake test I created using Avatarify, an open-source, PHP-based application. The setup took just a couple of hours, and while it’s not perfect, it’s an eye-opening demonstration of how far this technology has come.
With a bit more effort and expertise, the results could be astonishingly realistic—showcasing both the potential and the risks of deepfake capabilities.
Why Avatarify Stands Out
The Avatarify open-source package includes detailed and easy-to-follow instructions, making it surprisingly simple to set up. Even as a first attempt, the process was intuitive, highlighting how accessible this powerful technology has become.
A Double-Edged Sword
This experiment serves as a reminder of the dual nature of technological advancements. The future holds incredible possibilities with tools like these....but also presents significant ethical and societal challenges, depending on who wields them.
